Implant overdentures the permanent solution to loose dentures

Implant-supported overdentures are anchored directly to dental implants placed in your jaw — eliminating slippage, improving chewing power dramatically, and giving you complete confidence to eat, laugh and speak freely.

WHAT ARE IMPLANT-SUPPORTED OVERDENTURES

The gold standard for stable dentures

An implant-supported overdenture (also called an implant-retained denture or snap-in denture) is a removable denture that clips onto dental implants placed in your jawbone. Unlike conventional dentures that rest on the gums, overdentures are anchored securely — providing a level of stability that conventional dentures simply cannot match.

The implants are placed by a dental surgeon. Once healed, the overdenture fabricated at our Mount Wellington clinic snaps onto the implants, creating a firm, stable fit. Most patients describe the improvement as life-changing — particularly for those who have struggled with loose lower dentures for years.

How many implants do I need? Most implant overdentures use 2–4 implants per arch. A 2-implant lower overdenture is one of the most proven, cost-effective combinations in modern dentistry — dramatically improving stability at a more accessible price point than fixed implant bridges.

THE PROCESS

Getting your implant-supported overdenture

The overdenture process involves two providers — a dental surgeon for implant placement, and our clinic for the overdenture itself.

01

Initial Consultation

We assess your suitability for implant overdentures and refer you to an appropriate oral surgeon for implant placement.

02

Implant Placement

Your dental surgeon places the implants (typically under local anaesthetic). A healing period of 2–4 months follows.

03

Overdenture Fabrication

Once implants are healed, we take impressions and fabricate your overdenture to precisely fit the implant attachments.

04

Delivery & Aftercare

Your overdenture is fitted and clipped onto the implants. We adjust for comfort and bite, and you leave with a new quality of life.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Who are implant overdentures right for?

Implant-supported overdentures are ideal for patients who want the most stable and functional denture solution available.

Patients frustrated with loose dentures

If conventional dentures have failed you repeatedly, implant retention is the definitive solution.

Active people who love food

If denture instability has restricted your diet, overdentures restore the freedom to eat what you want.

Public speakers and social patients

Eliminating the anxiety of slipping dentures during conversation or public speaking is life-changing for many patients.

Patients with significant bone loss

Implants help stabilise remaining bone — and modern implant techniques make overdentures possible even in patients with some bone loss.

Patients who've invested in existing dentures

If you've already had quality dentures made, existing dentures can sometimes be modified to connect to implants — saving significant cost.

Long-term thinkers

The lifespan and quality-of-life benefits of implant overdentures make them one of the best long-term investments in oral health.

Not sure if this is right for you?
Not everyone is suitable for implants — good general health, adequate bone volume, and non-smoking are ideal conditions. Book a free consultation and we'll advise whether implant overdentures are achievable for you.
